When you are scared

When you are scared

When you are scared

Hope is the most magical thing of all which is just one of the reasons I care so much about the Palestinian people. They are the most hopeful people I know. They were told they didn’t exist, and their homeland was given away. They have been dispossessed brutally for over 70 years. They have been forced to live in subhuman conditions, forced behind illegal walls. They have tried to resist peacefully, verbally, and brutally and been condemned for every type of resistance. How dare they resist. They have endured 16 months of devastating genocide. The major aid organisation that provided for millions is now under attack. International laws that were meant to protect them have been ignored. The world has been complicit in its silence as the major powers in the world back their destruction. And now after it all, the “leader of the free world” decides that their land is part of his real estate portfolio, and they are his pawns to move around.

Despite all of this they never give up hope. That hope will outlive us all and this cruel world as it exists now.

When you are scared

When you are scared,

and fear that you can’t cope,

remember that the one thing

greater than fear,

is the act of having hope.

I would like to acknowledge the traditional custodians of Tenterfield, the place where I call home, the Kamilaroi, Jukembal, and Ngarabal people.
