Walking with ghosts

Walking with ghosts

Richard Dreyfus, Australia’s esteemed Attorney General recently spoke to a room of Zionists that “the label Zionist is used, not in any way, accurately. When critics, use that word, they actually mean Jew”. He then concluded that criticism of anti-Zionism is the same as antisemitism. Recently Australia has introduced the most draconian Hate Speech Laws of our history. This was done on the back of a spate of “antisemitic” attacks and the Dural Caravan Bomb threat that was also deemed to be an antisemitic attack.  NSW Police have since come out this week and advised that the Dural Caravan Bomb threat and the spate of “antisemitic” attacks were all a big con job and were the actions of criminals who wanted to instil fear. Unfortunately, the police seem to be reluctant to name who those criminals might be but anyone with half a brain has a good idea. Also, funnily enough Minns and anyone else who voted for these god-awful laws are not rushing to repeal them or not willing to admit at what stage they also knew that it was all a con job. I loathe them all.

Zionism has infiltrated our politics, our media, our universities and our freedoms. Zionism is a political ideology that is based on the supremacy of one type of people over all others. Funnily enough some of the scariest Zionists are the White Christian Zionists who cheer on the slaughter of the Palestinians on as they see that as fulfilling a Biblical prophecy. To speak out against a political ideology is not hate speech, nor is it antisemitic, it is part of our democratic right to protest and to have freedom of speech.

It is so sad what we are willing to give up for this entity and I am not sure we will ever be able to forgive ourselves. What is happening in the great old US of A is happening here and if that doesn’t terrify people, I don’t know what will.

Walking with ghosts

As we wander through this world,

focussed on our tiny screens,

ghosts are all around us,

rarely felt and never seen.

Ghosts of our convictions and of democracy,

ghosts of bravery, and of kindness.

ghosts of compassion and empathy.

The saddest ghosts of them all

are the ghosts of what we gave away,

and the ghost that will haunt us forever

is the ghost of what we might have been.
