Sylvia, a Water Warrior

This is Sylvia’s story. She did not want her photo taken but wanted to share her story. Please read about yet another one of our fabulous water warriors.

In Sylvia’s words:

11 months ago, I was told I needed a hip replacement. I am on a waiting list and may not have the hip replacement for another couple of years.

While I have always done a lot of exercise (dance, gym, Tai Chi) I found that I had to modify what I was doing as some of it was too painful. I started adding hydrotherapy exercises to my week but needed something a bit more strenuous after a while. When I saw Metaqua advertised on the WIRAC Facebook page in July I thought I would give it a go.

The results after a few weeks were fantastic. Metaqua works the whole body and after each session, I am walking without a limp and this can last for up to 24 hours.

I have now been doing Metaqua for nearly 4 months and my hip is not nearly as restricted and painful as it was a couple of months ago and I have reduced the number of Panadol Osteo or any other pain medication to only once or twice a week. My range of movement in my hip is much greater and I also get a great cardio workout. Metaqua gives me a harder workout than just "plain swimming (e.g. freestyle)

The program was challenging to start with but for me, the challenge was more than worth it for the benefits I gained. I am now doing a second session on my own during the week and intend to increase it to three sessions weekly. I am confident that Metaqua will keep me fit and mobile until I get the hip replacement and afterward.

For anyone with ongoing physical issues that preclude them from doing other forms of exercise or who want to try something that doesn't cause pain but at the same time gives you an all-around workout, I urge you to give Metaqua a go. It is suitable for all ages (I am 71) and is especially great now summer is upon us.”
