Rosie, a Water Warrior
In Rosie’s words:
“Hi, my name is Rosie and I live in Warwick. I first saw Metaqua on Facebook and I thought it sounded interesting and might be what I needed to improve my health. Water fitness is my thing, and when I saw it was 'gentle' water fitness, my first thought was 'I can do this'.
I have always loved the water and was a great swimmer as a kid. After having 3 children, (my eldest is 31 now), I seemed to continue to put on weight and it felt harder to lose it. With my last pregnancy I got gestational diabetes and was later diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, which happens to run in my family. Family life took over and then suddenly there are way too many kilograms to deal with.
I first learnt the program at the end of May at the indoor pool at Warwick. Then I had surgery and could not get back into the pool for 7 weeks to start the programme. Once I recovered from surgery I started to go to the weekly classes. But I did hesitate for the first class, I had my swimmers on but didn't get in! I felt very self-conscious about myself and walked away.
I did come back and thank goodness I did! I now go to the pool and swim Metaqua 4 days a week, without hesitation. I really thought everyone would have been looking at me, but no one even glances.
4 sessions a week and now I feel a lot better about myself and what I look like - my confidence has grown, and my health is improving.
15 years later, I am back in the water, for myself at least 4 days a week. I even pack my flippers and board when I go on holidays and find it so much easier to attack a set of stairs now! From the 22nd of September I have been doing 60 laps.....when it’s hot I sometimes stay even longer and get in a few more........60+ laps
Thanks Tonnes.”
