Kath, celebrating 51 fabulous years with the Your Face, Your Story Project.
Kath visited my little store by chance recently when she was visiting her friend Paula who recently moved to Tenterfield. We got to talking and almost immediately Paula signed up for the project. Kath was very undecided, initially saying yes, then saying no she was not ready, then getting back to me saying she needed to be brave and nabbing position number 40!
Part of being involved in the Your Face, Your Story Project is a questionnaire that is given to all the participants. I am amazed at both the similarity of many of the answers and the incredible diversity.
When I asked Kath what she would tell her younger self if she could go back in time, she replied, "Be kind to yourself. Focus your energy on what makes you happy and not trying to keep everyone else happy. It is not only impossible but exhausting."
There is such a common theme in this response that I find truly touching. Of of the beautiful things about ageing seems to be the ability to recognise that we need to be kinder to ourselves.
I asked Kath about what the Your Face, Your Story Project means to her, especially as she was initially so undecided and I loved her response, "Walking into your studio with Paula I was captured by both your stunning photography and the story of the project. I left thinking this will be quite moving and was looking forward to following you, the story and all the amazing women involved. It never entered my mind to be involved myself, until a little later.
I am definitely not one to put myself out there and as you know I did struggle a little to commit BUT as I was reminded it is about being brave and pushing ourselves out of our comfort zone. So here I am being a little bit brave and very much out of my comfort zone."
Kath will be travelling all the way from Mudgee for her shoot which will also celebrate her beautiful friendship with Paula. I am beyond excited that Kath decided to be brave and celebrate her.
The Your Face, Your Story Project is a project that celebrates the lives of women over 40 and challenges the stereotypes of ageing.
The 2024 project is now filled with 40 incredible women over 40 and I look forward to sharing their faces and stories with you in the coming months.
