It's simple really
I am so sick of hearing people utter the phrase “it is complicated”. It is the biggest cop out for not wanting to address the fact that the most appalling atrocities are happening under our watch. If it happened to us, it wouldn’t be complicated. The idea of it happening to us is so impossible for most of us to imagine so try to visualise it happening to someone you can relate to.
Imagine someone from Italy rocking up to someone’s door in London and saying, “Hi, my ancestry goes back a long way here, I used to own these lands, and by the way my god says I belong here so your house rightfully belongs to me.” They tell you to leave with the assistance of rifles and stun grenades on the side of your house. Then they build you a compound with high walls and snipers and say you can live in there. Occasionally over the decades, you will throw rocks at the windows that used to be yours and they will retaliate with bombs dropped out of fighter jets and they will call you a terrorist. Sounds ludicrous, doesn’t it?
If it was happening to us, it wouldn’t be complicated.
It’s simple really.
They gave a land
that wasn’t theirs,
to a people
that were not there,
then they expected
the people of the land
to simply disappear.
