Gaye, a Water Warrior

In Gaye’s words:

I’m a Metaqua beginner and am so far really enjoying the program.

I’ve always loved the water and water-based activities but am not a huge fan of swimming. Whilst I can swim, I never mastered diving as I have a fear of my head entering the water before the rest of me. A series of infections as a child caused by water blocking my ears left a legacy of NOT going underwater.

I had seen the promotional posters about Metaqua at WIRAC and also on FaceBook and the idea of being able to participate in a water-based exercise program that kept my head above water was appealing. As with most things I do it took me quite a while to decide to have a go. I am certainly glad that I did.

At 71 years of age with two artificial knees I am very conscious of my exercise limitations. I am no gym junky! I am also very conscious of keeping my body healthy and active. I have been attending aqua-aerobics classes in the hydrotherapy pool for about 3 years and have found it great for my physical and mental well-being. There is so much more I can do in water than on land which helped me take the plunge to give Metaqua a go.

Amanda assured me that Metaqua was for everyone, there is no agenda and it is completely at your own pace and once you know the routine you can do it anywhere there’s a pool. I’ve been coming to the pool between classes and often have a chat with others doing the same thing. I am getting in more laps every time I come so I am definitely feeling stronger and more confident.  This will be something that carries me forward to a healthier, stronger body and mind. So glad I took the plunge!”
