Conversations with Oday

Conversations with Oday

Imagine if one day someone had knocked on your grandparent’s door and told them that they weren’t allowed to live there anymore, and they had to leave or be shot. At the same time, TNT was put on their neighbour’s walls just for shits and gigs. Imagine if that was done to all their friends in the region.  Imagine if they were told that according to God, they had no right to their homes. Then imagine they were forced into a tiny strip of land and told that that was the only place they could live. They were forced to live in an open-air prison where every element of their lives was restricted; they were not even legally allowed to collect rainwater. Despite this, they built a life and had children and grandchildren. You were one of those grandchildren. This open-air prison was the only life you knew. You saw your friends arrested for throwing rocks and members of your family disappeared into a prison torture system where they were held without trial. This entity was allowed to do anything they liked to you. They were not only backed by God but by the most powerful in the land. If you resisted, you were called a terrorist. And the world does not tolerate terrorists.

And then there came a time when your existence was resistance, and it was time for you to be eradicated.

Just imagine.

Today Oday said that his homeland is in pain. His beloved homeland. And that he is too old to find another homeland.

He is 21 years old.

Oday is my friend. If you can help, I would be forever grateful.

I met @oday_aburaida through @projectlovebrocade, a worldwide initiative amplifying the voices of the people of Palestine.

Any money raised assists Oday's family with the basics that in Gaza mean the difference between life and death.

There are many ways you can help Oday and his family.  The best is donating to his GoFundMe account or donate to me in store.

Oday's beautiful sister Ameera and young son are also on Instagram @ameeraida995 and her fundraising link is https://spot.fund/m734llsc

I have cards in store and online as well as a poetry collection – details on website

Thank you,

xxxLara
