Catherine, celebrating 50 fabulous years with the Your Face, Your Story Project
Catherine and I met many moons ago when we were suited and booted and working for the old Treasury Hotel and Casino in Brisbane. She travelled to Tenterfield for the Your Face, Your Story Project and it was fabulous to spend a little time with her.
It was a stinky hot afternoon when we had her shoot so there were a lot of billowing curtain magic helped by a cheeky margarita at Stonefruit. We finished with sequins, flip flops and bubbles on big old granite rocks!
I asked Catherine what she would say to her young self if she could go back in time and her response was beautiful, “I would tell myself to be braver. Learn to love myself more and to be kinder to myself. Things were pretty bleak at times for my younger self, so I would tell myself to accept help when it was offered. Spending time on my own is ok, and to have confidence in my own decisions. And travel…. I would tell myself to travel.”
I have only 5 shoots remaining for the project and then a celebratory exhibition to organise in early February. I look forward to sharing more of what this project means to me. The Your Face, Your Story Project is a project celebrating the lives of 40 women over 40 and challenging the stereotypes of women and ageing.
